Parking Statement
Wallington County Grammar School is entirely committed to improving the local environment by encouraging staff and students to use sustainable modes of transport whenever possible to limit the amount of traffic in the local area.
The School has limited parking onsite; 40 spaces, 2 of which are allocated for visitors. We are not able to expand our parking facilities due to planning restrictions. We recognise that this can lead to members of the school community parking in local side streets and we wish to alleviate the impact of this in any way we can. Please follow the advice given below to help us in this aim.
Advice to Visiting Parents and Carers: We do not allow parents and carers to park or drop off their children in the school car park as it would lead to over congestion and health and safety risks. We also ask parents/carers not to drop off their children on Croydon Road as this too would be a risk to their safety. Please use the Beddington Park Car Parks on Croydon Road (A232) and London Road (A237) which are the safest areas for students to exit vehicles. Please enter these car parks fully before stopping, parking and/or turning around to avoid congesting the entrance/exit roads. If you have no other option than to use a side road please completely avoid Manor Way and Derek Avenue which become extremely congested if anyone other than residents use them. Please also park with the utmost consideration for our neighbours by avoiding blocking driveways or roads.
Advice to Visitors on Open Evening: Our Open Evening is very well attended by parents/carers and prospective students. The School makes provision for parking for this event in Beddington Park, entry to which is via Church Road. Please note that parking is not available on the school site and we would advise that, out of consideration to our neighbours, you do not park in Manor Way or Derek Avenue. These are very narrow roads and parking is very restricted. We would strongly advise that you use public transport as the roads in and around the area of the School are heavily congested at this time. Disabled visitors with a Blue Badge may park on our schools grounds on Open Evening with prior agreement. Please note that each year we do try to arrange additional parking in Beddington Park for our Year 7 Open Evening, (not our Sixth Form Open Evening) please refer to the Admissions/Open Evenings section of our website.
Advice to Staff/Students: We recommend that all members of the school community travel to school using the most sustainable modes of transport possible. There are 38 parking spaces allocated to staff in the school car park and a bike rack is located on the edge of the school field. We ask that any member of the school community who parks in the local area does so with respect to the needs of local residents, avoiding blocking drive ways or roads. Please avoid Manor Way and Derek Avenue which become very congested if used by anyone other than the residents. We ask that all staff and students provide the School with their vehicle registration and details in case a problem does emerge.
Advice to Local Residents: As you can see above, we try to make every effort to avoid problems created by parking and congestion in the local area. Should an issue arise that you suspect may be as a result of actions by a member of the school community, please feel free to contact the School to see if we have their vehicle registered with us in which case we will contact the owner.
